Chief Jeff Johnson

As Chief of Police, I welcome you to the Starke Police Department's Official Web Site. This site will introduce you to our Agency and provides a general overview of our services. I sincerely hope you will easily find the information you are looking for as you explore the many services we provide to the public.  The Starke Police Department is currently staffed with 18 full time sworn officers and 4 non sworn employees.  Police Headquarters is located at 830 Edwards Road and is supplemented by off-site locations including the newly created Neighborhood Network Center at the Wal-Mart Supercenter .

On December 16, 2008 I was honored and humbled to take the oath of office as the newly selected Police Chief for my home town. I have dedicated my entire life to serving the community of Starke.  As Chief of Police, It has been one of my goals to be more open, informative and available to the public. One way is through the use of modern technology.  To achieve this, we are constantly working to make this website more user friendly, enlightening, as well as entertaining.

Another one of my goals is to return the sense of community we once had.  It is my intent to implement a strong Community Policing effort throughout the city so that we are more visible and responsive to the special needs of all areas. A high level of public satisfaction and input are our greatest assets and our constant goal.

As your Chief of Police, I understand that I am here to serve the members of this community.  I strive to be a "hands on" Chief.  I want to be available to you, so that you feel that you can voice any concerns that you may have within the City, with my department or with an Officer.  I want to hear your concerns.  I want you to know that I take all complaints and concerns seriously.  I need to know when there is a problem.  I want you to feel part of the team in the fight against crime.  You have the ability to make a difference and I want to give you the opportunity to have a voice in how we serve you.

This Department has adopted the Community Oriented Policing philosophy and embraces its approach to developing community partnerships and problem solving. Community policing requires police and citizens to join together as partners in the course of identifying and effectively addressing issues that directly or indirectly affect the community as a whole. Community policing focuses on crime and social disorder through the delivery of police services that includes aspects of traditional law enforcement, as well as prevention, problem-solving, community engagement, and partnerships.  Community Policing balances reactive responses to calls for service with proactive problem-solving centered on the causes of crime and disorder.  With this union, the City of Starke will continue to be a place for all to enjoy in safety and serenity that we all desire.

Our employees are extremely proud of our tradition and are committed to public service and to ensuring the public safety of our residents and visitors. The Starke Police Department is a State and Nationally Awarded Agency and is recognized by our peers as a leader in our profession.  We are proud of the accomplishments of this agency and always strive to provide the best in services to you.

On behalf of the City of Starke and the Starke Police Department, thank you for your interest. Please contact our Captain Barry Warren in the Community Awareness Section at area code 904-964-5400 for any additional information or assistance or send an email to CommunityAwareness@starkepd.com.

As you visit with us here and meet our officers, I am confident you will see what an excellent team we have established to address all of your needs. Together, we will achieve the goal of being one of the most capable and advanced agencies in the country. I am deeply committed to providing this agency with the tools and resources to be effective and responsive, so that at the end of the day, we can honestly say we delivered the best service possible to the people of the City of Starke .

I want you to know that this agency was built on a foundation of trust and performance achieved through the setting of goals and the willingness to adapt. The Starke Police Department's motto is "Protect with Courage, Serve with Compassion".  New ideas are not only welcome; but they are a necessity to guarantee our success in the future. I will always seek out and listen to suggestions for improvement and enhancement in the delivery of service to the citizens of the City of Starke .

Please feel free to contact us at any time with your ideas and suggestions about ways to improve our service to the community. I look forward to the coming years as we work together to make every year better than the one before it and I will need your continued help and input to make that a reality.  We must always remember that the actions we take today will affect this City and Community in the future.  We must be agents of good and bring about positive changes to build the foundation of community spirit and brotherhood that will become our legacy.

Respectfully,

Chief Jeff Johnson
